How To Replace Your Nissan Key Fob

Replacing Your Nissan Key Fob

Having a dead key fob can be frustrating, especially when it happens without warning. Usually, your vehicle will let you know when the battery in your fob is running low; if it does, you should work on replacing it as soon as possible. Below, we will discuss the steps to replace your Nissan key fob’s battery and explain how you can still get into your car even if the battery is dead.

1. Determine Correct Battery and Remove the Hidden Key

First, check your owner's manual to determine what battery you should purchase at the store. Once you have the correct battery, remove the hidden key from the back of the Nissan key fob.

2. Open the Key Fob Housing and Remove the Old Battery

Use the tip of a small flathead screwdriver to open the key fob housing and remove the old battery from the Nissan Intelligent Key, ensuring you note the battery's position.

3. Replace With New Battery

Take the new battery and place it into the vacant battery slot, ensuring it fits into the exact orientation of the old battery. Align the two halves of the key fob casing to ensure a tight fit, and then snap them together.

4. Test Key Fob

The final step is to determine if your key fob works properly by using it to open your vehicle. If you can open your vehicle remotely, you are all set to enjoy a nice ride in your Nissan!

If you are struggling to open up the Nissan key fob or are still experiencing key fob issues, schedule a service appointment with our Nissan of South Morrow service team.

Getting Into Your Nissan With a Dead Key Fob

Ideally, you will replace your key fob’s battery before it loses all its juice. However, circumstances arise where this isn’t the case, and you still need to get into your Nissan. Luckily, the Nissan key fob has a backup key to help you out of this tricky situation.

1. Look for Small Release Hatch

First, flip over your key fob and look for a small release hatch. Press the release hatch to pull out the emergency key at the bottom of the fob.

2. Unlock Your Car

Next, you will unlock your car with the emergency key and look for a key fob port to start your vehicle.

3. Start Your Nissan

If your vehicle has a key fob port, you will simply need to insert your fob and tap on the brake while pressing the Start/Stop button. If your vehicle does not have a pot, you will step on the brake or clutch as you press the key against the Start/Stop button.

How To Choose The Right Battery For Your Nissan

The Importance of a Quality Nissan Battery

It goes without saying that a faulty car battery is bad for your car and your overall driving experience. But what essential functions does your battery help with? Below, we will dive into the components of car function in which your battery plays the most significant role and how to choose the correct Nissan battery.

Essential Battery Functions

Starting the Engine

A good battery ensures that your engine will start up, which is essential if you are driving through unfamiliar areas. In general, you want your vehicle to be reliable, and a good battery makes sure that you won’t be left stranded.

Powering Electrical Components

A car battery stores electricity and sends it to all the vehicle's electrical components, including the air conditioning, navigation, and sound system. Aside from powering these essential components, the battery maintains your vehicle's electrical current and keeps it steady, ensuring your car runs smoothly.

Anti-Theft Systems

Anti-theft systems play a huge role in overall car safety, and many modern anti-theft systems rely on a vehicle's battery to run properly. Ensuring you have a quality battery can keep your car safer in the event of an attempted burglary.

Battery Maintenance

To guarantee the above essential battery functions run smoothly at all times, you should take steps to maintain your battery. You can check for corrosion, ensure the battery is charged, and look for warning signs of battery deterioration. Neglecting maintenance can lead to more severe problems down the road, such as pricey repairs or replacements.

How to Choose the Right Battery for Your Nissan

Having the correct-sized battery for your Nissan ensures your vehicle remains operational and efficient. All car batteries have a set number of cold cranking amps (CCA), directly impacting your battery’s ability to engage in cold temperatures. Batteries with a higher number of CCAs can also be more reliable over longer periods of time and even have an extended battery life compared to batteries with cold-cranking amps.

Related: How to Keep Your Nissan Car Battery from Dying in Cold Weather

Another consideration is your group size. Group size is typically determined by the battery’s physical size, terminal location, and type. Multiple batteries can have the same CCA but different group sizes. Knowing the group will help you decide on the correct Nissan battery for your vehicle.

How a Battery Replacement Works

When your Nissan battery needs replacing, removing the negative (black) cable from the battery terminal first is essential. If the positive (red) cable is removed first, there is a risk of electrical shorts that could damage the battery or other vehicle components.

Once the battery cables are removed, they are cleaned with a wire cleaning brush and a manufacturer-approved battery cleaning solution. It's possible that your Nissan has a trap holding the battery in place along with a cover. In this case, a technician will remove the bolts holding the strap in place and then remove the strap and battery cover together. Finally, the old battery will be lifted from the tray and replaced with a new one. Once the new battery is in place, the cover and strap will be secured once again.

When is the Right Time for a Wheel Realignment?

How Often Should I Get a Wheel Realignment?

It’s normal for tires to lose traction over time as their treads wear down. As a tire loses traction, the vehicle's ability to grip the road worsens, putting drivers in dangerous situations. Tire rotations and wheel alignments can help keep your vehicle in tip-top shape and keep you safe while traveling.

All vehicles eventually need a wheel realignment, which ensures that all four wheels point perfectly forward and are level with the ground. Having your tires regularly realigned ensures that your vehicle drives straight, all four tires are flush to the ground, and the vehicle is less likely to drift while driving. But how often should you get a wheel realignment? Most dealerships usually say once a year or every 10,000 miles. However, to keep your vehicle at peak performance, most tire professionals recommend every 6,000 miles or every other oil change.

Signs Your Wheels Need Realignment

  • Steering Wheel Not Centered: If your steering wheel doesn't line up the center or pulls to one side when going straight, then you most likely need a tire realignment.
  • Vehicle Feels Unstable: If you feel your vehicle doesn’t handle the road effectively or is unstable when making turns and maneuvering tight areas, your wheels may need to be rotated and realigned.
  • Tire Screech: If your tires screech when turning, you may need to have them inspected by a professional. This could be a sign that they need realignment or that there is another more serious issue with them.
  • Tires Are Wearing Down Unevenly: Perhaps the most obvious sign that you need a realignment is when your tires are wearing unevenly, which shows that not all of your tires are flush with the ground.

The Wheel Alignment Process

Wheel alignment has three steering axes. The first is the camber, which is vital in preventing tire tread wear. The camber refers to whether the tire tilts inward or outward on a vertical axis. The next piece is the caster, which impacts how easy it is to steer your vehicle. A positive caster means the steering components form a line pointing from the center of your wheel to the front of the car. A negative caster means that the steering components form a line pointing back.

The last component is the toe, which refers to whether the tires rotate slightly left or right on a horizontal axis. This affects tire wear rate and overall steering control. Toe-in refers to the tires pointing inward; the opposite would be toe-out. A professional would need to examine and correct both instances. A wheel alignment at our service center typically takes thirty to sixty minutes, depending on the number of tires needing alignment.

Learn More: Your Ultimate Guide to Routine Vehicle Maintenance at Nissan of South Morrow

Wheel and Tire Maintenance Tips

Regular Tire Rotations

It’s important to rotate your tires regularly to maintain proper tire health. Tires will wear differently depending on whether the vehicle is front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. An example of a tire rotation would be moving the back tires to the front tires; however, the experts at our service center will recommend different rotation orders depending on the vehicle model.

Limit Driving with Mismatched Tires

Driving with mismatched tires can be very damaging to your vehicle. When faced with an irreparable flat tire, most will choose to just have that tire replaced. While this method is certainly easier on the wallet, it may be better for your vehicle in the long run if you purchase an entirely new set. When only one tire is replaced, it can cause the other tires to wear quickly, making for a pricey adjustment in the future.

Survey Treads and Sidewalls

In general, the depth of wear on your car’s tires should always be above 1/16 of an inch. If your tires are near that low in-depth, it’s certainly time for a replacement. Additionally, it is recommended that your tires have at least 1/8 inch of tread to work well in all common weather conditions. Aside from these common measurements, you should monitor any bulges or cracks in your tires, as these issues should be fixed quickly.

Luckily, we've broken the process down into six simple steps in this blog to make it easier for you to determine the value of your car.

Step 1: Research the Market

Begin your estimation journey by delving into the market. Look up similar cars in your area to gauge their prices. Online platforms like Kelley Blue Book and Consumer Reports offer valuable insights into the current market trends. Take note of the prices of vehicles with similar mileage, year, make, and model as yours. Additionally, consider factors such as location, as regional variations can impact prices.

Step 2: Consider Your Vehicle’s Condition

Honesty is key when assessing your car's condition. Evaluate its interior and exterior, considering scratches, dents, mechanical issues, and overall cleanliness. Be realistic about any wear and tear, as this will impact the value. Additionally, document any recent repairs or maintenance you've conducted, as this can increase the value. Here are a few things to look out for when assessing your vehicle’s condition:

● Inspect the body for visible scratches, dents, or paint chips.
● Check for rust, especially on the undercarriage and wheel wells.
Look for cracks or chips in windows and mirrors.
● Ensure all lights and indicators are functioning correctly.
● Check for tears, stains, or excessive wear on seats and upholstery.
● Ensure all gauges, lights, and electronic controls work properly.
Note the overall cleanliness of the interior, including carpets and floor mats.
● Listen for unusual noises from the engine and test the smoothness of gear shifts.
● Test the brakes for responsiveness and listen for any unusual noises.
Gather and document all service records and recent repairs, highlighting major work.

Step 3: Mileage Matters

Mileage plays a significant role in determining a car's worth. Generally, lower-mileage cars tend to command higher prices since they imply less wear and tear and potentially more years of service ahead. However, don't despair if your car has higher mileage; its maintenance history and overall condition can still positively influence its value.

Step 4: Trim Level and Optional Features

Your car's trim level and optional capabilities can significantly affect its value. Higher trim levels and additional features such as leather seats, navigation systems, and premium sound systems often result in higher prices in the used car market. Make sure to highlight these characteristics when estimating your car's worth.

Step 5: Get Multiple Valuations

To ensure a more accurate estimate, consider obtaining valuations from multiple sources. Online valuation tools, local dealerships, and professional appraisers can provide different perspectives on your car's worth. By comparing these valuations, you can better understand the range within which your car's value lies.

Step 6: Adjust for Market Conditions

Keep an eye on market conditions, as they can fluctuate over time. Factors such as seasonal demand, economic conditions, and changes in gas prices can impact the value of certain types of vehicles. Timing your sale or trade-in when the market is favorable can potentially yield a higher price for your car.

The Top 7 Reasons to Invest in a Brand-New Vehicle

7 Reasons to Consider Buying a New Vehicle

It’s the choice that millions of car buyers make each year: Do you buy a brand-new ride or opt for an older car to save money? Deciding between that new car smell or a pre-owned vehicle comes down to more than just price—but it’s an important factor.

While the allure of a shiny, untouched car is undeniable, there are several compelling reasons why opting for a new vehicle is a smart and practical investment too. From cutting-edge technology to enhanced safety features, let's explore the top seven reasons to consider a brand-new vehicle for your next ride.

1. Latest Technological Advancements

One of the main reasons to invest in a new vehicle is the access to the latest technological advancements. The automotive industry has witnessed rapid innovation in recent years, including advanced driver-assistance systems, connectivity features, and fuel-efficient engines. New vehicles often come equipped with state-of-the-art infotainment systems, navigation tools, and smartphone integration, providing a seamless and enjoyable driving experience.

2. Improved Fuel Efficiency

As environmental concerns become increasingly important, car manufacturers are emphasizing fuel efficiency more. Newer vehicles are designed with advanced engineering to maximize fuel economy, resulting in fewer trips to the gas station and reduced carbon emissions. Investing in a brand-new vehicle can lead to long-term savings on fuel costs while contributing to a greener and more sustainable environment.

3. Enhanced Safety Features

Safety is a paramount concern for any driver, and modern vehicles come equipped with various advanced safety features. From adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning systems to automatic emergency braking, new cars are designed to provide an extra layer of protection for both the driver and passengers. Investing in a new vehicle ensures that you have access to the latest safety technologies, enhancing your overall driving experience and peace of mind.

4. Warranty Coverage

Purchasing a brand-new vehicle often comes with the added benefit of extensive warranty coverage. Manufacturers typically offer warranties that cover major components and repairs for a specified period, providing a safety net against unexpected expenses. This added peace of mind can be a significant factor in the decision-making process, as it minimizes the financial risk associated with potential mechanical issues in the initial years of ownership.

5. Customization Options

When you buy a new vehicle, you have the opportunity to customize it according to your preferences. Buying a new car allows you to tailor the vehicle to your specific needs and style, from selecting the exterior color and interior materials to choosing optional features and packages. This level of personalization ensures that you own a vehicle that aligns perfectly with your lifestyle and aesthetic preferences.

6. Long-Term Reliability

New vehicles benefit from the latest manufacturing techniques, materials, and engineering expertise, contributing to their long-term reliability. A new car will likely provide years of trouble-free driving with proper maintenance and care. This reliability can result in lower maintenance costs over time, making a brand-new vehicle a wise investment for those looking for a durable and dependable mode of transportation.

7. Resale Value

While it's true that a new car depreciates in value as soon as it leaves the dealership, the resale value of a well-maintained, low-mileage new vehicle tends to be higher compared to a used car. This can be a significant factor for those who plan to upgrade their vehicle in a few years. A higher resale value can offset the initial depreciation, making the overall cost of ownership more reasonable in the long run.

Buyer’s Guide: What is a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle?

5 Benefits of Buying a CPO Vehicle

Thinking about getting a new ride? You might want to hit the brakes before splurging on a shiny, straight-from-the-factory car. Certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles are making waves for good reason, offering a sweet spot between new and used vehicles. If you're all about saving some cash without sacrificing quality, you're in the right place!

In this blog, we'll delve into the concept of certified pre-owned vehicles and unveil five significant advantages of buying a CPO at Nissan of South Morrow.

What are Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles?

Certified pre-owned refers to used vehicles that have undergone a comprehensive inspection and refurbishment, meeting specific manufacturer or dealer standards. These vehicles typically come with an extended warranty and additional benefits, making them a compelling choice for buyers seeking the assurance of a reliable and well-maintained vehicle without the hefty price tag of a brand-new car.

1. Rigorous Inspection Process

The hallmark of certified pre-owned vehicles is the meticulous inspection they undergo before earning the certification. Manufacturers and dealerships establish a set of rigorous criteria that cover everything from mechanical components to cosmetic aspects. Trained technicians conduct these inspections, ensuring that each vehicle meets or exceeds the predefined standards.

The inspection process typically includes thoroughly examining the engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, and other vital systems. Any defective or worn-out parts are replaced or repaired, bringing the vehicle to the manufacturer's specifications. Additionally, the vehicle's history is thoroughly reviewed to ensure it has a clean title and has not been involved in major accidents or undergone significant damage.

2. Extended Warranty and Added Peace of Mind

One of the key benefits of opting for a certified pre-owned vehicle is the extended warranty that often comes with it. While regular used cars may only have a limited warranty or none at all, CPO vehicles typically include an extended warranty that covers specific components and systems for an extended period beyond the original factory warranty.

This extended coverage provides buyers with added peace of mind, knowing they are protected against unforeseen mechanical issues. It also reflects the manufacturer's confidence in the vehicle's reliability after the rigorous inspection and refurbishment process.

3. Competitive Pricing

While certified pre-owned vehicles offer many benefits associated with new cars, they come with a significantly lower price tag. Buyers can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a well-inspected and warranty-covered vehicle without the immediate depreciation that occurs with new cars as soon as they leave the dealership.

The competitive pricing of CPO vehicles makes them an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers who are looking for a high-quality, late-model vehicle without breaking the bank. Additionally, some manufacturers and dealerships may offer financing deals and special incentives for certified pre-owned vehicles, further enhancing their affordability.

4. Access to Modern Features and Technology

Opting for a certified pre-owned vehicle allows buyers to enjoy the latest advancements in automotive technology and features without the hefty price associated with new vehicles. Many CPO vehicles are relatively recent models with cutting-edge safety features, infotainment systems, and other modern amenities.

This accessibility to advanced technology can be particularly appealing for buyers who prioritize staying up-to-date with the latest automotive innovations but want to avoid the premium price of brand-new vehicles.

5. Special Financing Offers and Incentives

Many manufacturers and dealerships offer special financing deals and incentives for certified pre-owned vehicles. These include lower interest rates, extended loan terms, or cashback offers. The availability of such financial perks further enhances the affordability of CPO cars, making them an even more attractive option for budget-conscious buyers.
